Life in the Nicu

preslee and mason spent the first week of their life in the nicu at greater baltimore medical center. i didn't get to see them until they were 28 hours old because i was put on magnesium to lower my blood pressure after the c-section. drew took lots of pictures and showed them to me, but nothing was the same as getting to hold them in my arms for the first time. they slept a lot those first days getting their nutrition through an iv in their arms. here are some pictures of our first moments with them:

preslee struggled some to breathe at birth, so she was placed on a cpap machine to force pressure into her lungs to keep them open. after only 2 days, she was able to do this on her own and was taken off. she was still really tired and needed a feeding tube to get my breastmilk. we would try to nurse and what she couldn't take we would gavage feed her through the tube.

mason was in the nicu 7 days and preslee joined her sister at home 4 days later. here are a few more of our favorite nicu pictures:
