a friend sent this to me today. it was so sweet, i had to share it.
Her Little Shadows
I saw a young mother with eyes full of laughter
And two little shadows come following after
Wherever she moved, they were always right there-
Holding onto her skirts, hanging onto her chair,
Before her, behind her-an adhesive pair.
“Don’t you ever get weary as, day after day,
Your two little tagalongs get in your way?”
She smiled as she shook her pretty young head,
And I’ll always remember the words that she said:
It’s good to have shadows that run when you run
That laugh when you’re happy and hum when you hum-
For you only have shadows when your life's filled with sun

The Six word Memoir
uncle mark of trulyregalmanners.blogspot.com tagged me to write a 6 word memoir. so, i decided to accept his assignment and pass it on.
here goes mine:
drew
daughters
family
spring
nurse
faith
it's harder than you think to write 6 words about yourself. so, i tried to think of 6 words that if i was gone, people might remember about me. with that said, i am going to tag 5 people (as per mark's instruction) to write their own memoir.
andrea

amy
jamie
bess
the instructions are to write your own six word memoir.
post it on your blog, including an illustration if you’d like.
link to the person that tagged you in your post and to the original post if possible so that it can be tracked as it travels across the blogosphere.
tag at least five more blogs with links.
leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play.
so go for it girls, it should be fun!

Baby loves Disco
the latest thing in baltimore on sunday afternoons is baby loves disco. i heard about it in my mommy's group and this weekend we decided to take the girls and go with some friends to try it out.
the baltimore sun describes it......All across the country, Baby Loves Disco is slowly but surely transforming the hippest night clubs into child proof discos as toddlers, pre-schoolers and parents looking for a break from the routine playground circuit let loose for some post naptime, pre-dinner fun. Make no mistake, this is NOT the Mickey Mouse club, and Barney is Banned. Baby loves disco is an afternoon dance party featuring real music spun and mixed by real djs blending classic disco tunes From the 70s, & 80s guaranteed to get those little booties moving and grooving. The fun spills out from all corners of the club: bubble machines, baskets of scarves and egg-shakers, a chill-out room (with tents, books and puzzles), diaper changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks and dancing, LOTS of dancing. But at it’s core, Baby loves disco is a community event that brings kids together with kids and parents together with parents.
preslee, mason and tripp had a great time. i think they were afraid to show up the other kiddos with their amazing dance moves, so they didn't shake their little hineys too much. but, they loved the bubbles, balloons and the play room upstairs, not to mention the snacks! here are a few videos of today:

Happy 14 months Preslee and Mason
is it really already march 30th? are preslee and mason really already 14 months old? it seems like yesterday that we had all of our friends and family over to celebrate their one year birthday. that was only 60 days ago and in that time, our little girls have changed so much.
preslee is walking now, no more crawling for her. she's toddling all over the place. she has learned to "score" all by herself when she plays basketball. her pop-pop and daddy are so proud of that! i have been writing down all the words that she says and realized that there are 15 of them! she can say ball (she says this with just the right southern twang), hi, mama,da-da, heidi, up, blue (boo), baby (beebee), eye, no, yeah, uh-oh, night-night (she says ni-ni), papaw and pop. i remember thinking in the beginning that preslee was going to be so quiet and timid. she has broken out of that shell and is saying everything.
mason has been walking for 3 1/2 months and is now just perfecting it OR she is running, yes, running! she runs and squeals while looking behind her to see if you are chasing her. she isn't quite as talkative as her sister, but she says mama, dada, heidi, ball and uh-oh. she points and grunts to everything that she wants. it is amazing to me how much they understand. yesterday, she took preslee's stinky baby and preslee started to cry. i said, "mason, please give preslee her baby back, she's so sad." well, mason walked right over, handed the baby to preslee and walked away. she understood exactly what i asked her to do. i just sat there with my mouth wide open in amazement.
they both hug and kiss all the time. drew and i and even each other. mason even makes the smacking sound when she gives you a kiss. when drew and i put them to bed, he takes one of the girls and puts her in her crib and i take the other. after reading our bedtime story, we always stand up and give each of the girls a nightime kiss before we lay them down. tonight, when we did this, they both kept leaning out for just one more kiss and then one more and then one more and then, you get the picture. before we knew it , they had given each of us and each other about 10 kisses. drew and i just looked at each other and laughed. it was the sweetest thing that i had ever seen. i know everyone thinks this about their baby, but they really are the sweetest little girls.
i think what gets me the most is that they now know who mama and dada are. they point to a picture of me and say mama and drew and say dada. it melts my heart when i watch them waiting at the front door for drew to come home from work and say dada when they see him pull up.
i remember in college having a conversation with a friend about why she called her mom by her first name and didn't call her mom. she said that she figured that her mom had been a mom for all these years and now she probably wanted her name back. so, she called her by her first name. i LOVE that preslee and mason call me mama. what an honor to be their mama. i never want there to be a day where they don't call me that. i have not lost myself, i have only gained more knowledge, wisdom and strength. if anything i am more me than i ever have been before. being a mom has made me deeply honest about how i feel about everything. i don't have time to pretend to be something i'm not, or to pretend to like something i don't, or pretend to want to do something i really don't want to do. and the things i miss doing from time to time, are just that - things. things that can wait and will always be there for when i am ready to enjoy them again. in the meantime, i have a million new things to discover everyday with my baby girls.
happy 14 months preslee and mason, you have made them the happiest 14 months in our whole lives!

Spring is here!
the weather in maryland has been amazing this last week! today it was 60 degrees and the girls and i finally ventured out into the yard to play. it was so different than this time last year. last year, we hadn't been anywhere except to the doctor's office since they were born. this year, they were digging in the dirt, picking up leaves, walking and running everywhere and preslee even picked a daffodil from the neighbors yard, OOPS!

Free Play
today i took preslee and mason to free play at my gym. they have their scheduled class every saturday, but on wednesdays they offer 45 minutes of free play where the kiddos can just run and jump and burn off that extra energy. today was rainy and gross. i was bored in the house and i know the girls were too, so we headed out in the storm to free play. wow! even with the bad weather, there were so many kids and so much energy.
i was so proud of the girls because they weren't afraid of all the kids and they just jumped right in and started playing. these two girls have never met a stranger. they "talked" and played with everyone! mason has now started running. mommy's not as fast i as i used to be and i have to admit, once she gets going, i have to scoot to catch her. preslee just really started walking in the last few weeks and today gave her a huge open room to practice. they went non-stop for the entire 45 minutes.
so many parents came up to me and asked me, "how do you do it with two?" honestly, i don't even think about it, because it's all i know. we have so much fun together, i can't begin to imagine if there was only one of them. i feel like we belong together. i was so proud of them today. they are amazing! everyday, they take my breath away.

Happy Easter!
yesterday we took the girls to kenilworth mall to see the easter bunny. they looked so pretty in their dresses and weren't afraid at all! in fact, before it was their turn, they were reaching and yelling for the bunny.

We're getting ready for Easter
last year preslee and mason were only 3 months old on easter. this year, i thought maybe they would like to actually join in the festivities. so, we started the week off coloring easter pictures, making bunny cookies and dying easter eggs. the girls had so much fun. there was egg dye everywhere and we had to all three take baths to get it off afterwards. they just couldn't figure out why their little hands were pink!

Pony tails
i have waited my whole life to have two little girls with beautiful thick hair that i can brush, curl and put lots of cute bows and barrettes in. when preslee and mason were born and i saw all of their hair, i knew my time had come. they have been wearing barrettes almost since they were born, but today was the first day that we could brush their hair up into a ponytail. here are our little beauties!

May I have this Dance?
the first time they danced together, not so very long ago, she was such a little girl. her arms were wrapped around Daddy's neck, her little feet scrunched up and they swayed back and forth in a big hug set to music. she's bigger now and they can dance without his bending over, because she's old enough for her feet to reach all the way to the ground when he holds her and she's wearing her first almost high heels. her hand still gets lost in his. he's still far enough above her to take in the sweet melon smell that comes from the top of her head. she tilts back to smile at him, knowing she has just stepped on his foot. did he even feel it?
she looks around at the other dads, the too cool dads who might as well be dancing with the mirror instead of their little girl, the stiff dads who've had some lessons but still can't find the beat, the scared dads on the sidelines who are suddenly 11 years old again and can't move. she knows that, already, she had been lucky in life. she's got a fun dad and he whispers something just for her, then twirls her away in a spin, catch and spin again.
he knows-in fact he hopes, he dreams-that a day will come when he will dance with her in her long white dress, light and lovely, leaving a trail of memories behind them. and then he'll have to step back, because she'll only have eyes for another.
but not now, not tonight. tonight that smile is just for him. on father-daughter night she is the apple of his eye and he is her prince charming.
while cleaning out a dresser drawer, i found this, yellowed and folded over and over. i don't remember what magazine i tore it out of or even who wrote it, but i have had it for years. it reminds me of my daddy. how i used to dance with him. now when i watch drew dance with the girls, i see in their eyes that he is their prince charming too.

Mmm...toes
this was too hilarious not to post. preslee was playing today and didn't even notice that i was taking pictures of her while she was dining on her chubby little toes. they must have tasted yummy because she put them down and then picked them up and started chewing again.
My Guy
Two of a Kind
i don't usually advertise on my blog, but i recently found this website and had to share with all my girlfriends!

sisters have an amazing connection with each other. despite differences, there's an amazing bond that's simply indescribable. so when sisters just happen to be twins, well, you can imagine the connection and the energy between them. twins, Gina and Jennifer, know firsthand how deep their connection to each other runs. they tried living away from each other, but quickly realized that was not an option. so Gina packed up her family and moved to Phoenix to be close to her sister, Jennifer, and her family. order was restored for these two connected souls.
when Jennifer began making jewelry, she knew going into business was going to mean needing some help. who better to partner with than Gina (who, fortunately, had a background in business)? so the two embarked on a career together, creating handcrafted, chic and lovely jewelry for women, and Two Sisters Jewelry Boutique was born.
when i first heard about Two Sisters, i was inspired by their story, their energy, and of course, their chic and lovely designs. two sisters jewelry boutique creates some of the most beautiful and sleek designs i've seen, and the prices are simply amazing! i've ordered lots of goodies! (hint: Mother's Day is not far off, hubbies!)check it out!
