on january 13th, we had an amnio to make sure that finley's lungs were fully developed. my ob wanted to deliver me at 38 weeks because i am diabetic and wanted to avoid any possible problems in the last two weeks of my pregnancy. i was really nervous about the amnio, but it wasn't bad at all. the test came back that her lungs were mature and we were still on the schedule for a c-section the next day. i honestly couldn't sleep that night. as ready as i thought i was, i still had fears about bringing another little one into our house. mostly for preslee and mason. i didn't want them to feel left out or worried about anything. also because in 23 months, i had never left them overnight and was so afraid of how much i was going to miss them while i was in the hospital.
7am arrived really early and drew and i were at the hospital waiting our turn to be called back. they prepped me and my family was allowed to come back to give us their prayers and well wishes. i remember looking at the clock and it was 8:55 and i thought, here we go. i couldn't believe that we were about to meet our sweet finley! before i knew it, it was 9:16am and i heard the third sweetest sound i have ever heard in my life, finley crying (or should i say,)screaming her head off. dr weitz said she was perfect, apgars of 9 and 9, our little over achiever. the nicu nurse brought her over to me and we were able to take pictures of all three of us together right in the or. it was so different than with the girls. so much more calm and less stressful. they sat me up and for the first time, i got to hold my sweet baby girl. she was so alert and awake and just stared at me when i talked to her, like we had known each other forever.
it was so fulfilling to be sitting in recovery holding her while all of our family and friends came back. i remember my arms feeling so empty after i delivered preslee and mason. they were rushed off to the nicu and it was two days before i would get to see them again. my arms felt so full and our family so complete with finley here safe and sound.
the next four days are a blur of visitors, phone calls and time just getting to know finley. we are home now and in the thick of things. today was the first day that i was completely on my own with all three of them. it was a little hectic at times, but God has blessed us so richly with our three healthy little girls that hectic, i can handle.

Laura, You look so pretty!!! I love that before pic of you waiting. You have a great looking family! I wish we lived in Arbor Club, just a few feet away from each other. Love you and miss you. Amy
What a beautiful family!! Laura you said it was as if you and Finley had known each other forever. Well, you have...she grew for 9 months under your heart. There is no other bond stronger than that.
When I look into her little face I see you as a baby. Brings back such warm and wonderful memories.
She is adorable!!! Great story. Love the new picture at the top of your blog.
